CERN Large Hadron Collider

This is the CERN  Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is the world's largest and highest-energy  particle collider  and the largest machine in the world. The accelerator sits in a tunnel 100 metres underground at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, on the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. Built between 1998 and 2008 in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and hundreds of universities and laboratories, as well as more than 100 countries, it is the biggest Machine in scientific history of mankind.

It consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. Physicists believe this machine will help unravel the mysteries of spacetime and provide the interrelation between quantum mechanics and general relativity. It is a dream of astrophysicists to catch a vista of this iconic piece.
