Stephen Hawking - A memory on Pi Day

Image
#OTD Remembering one of the greatest scientific thinkers of all time. Legends like Stephen William Hawking come only once in a century. Born in Oxford in 1942, exactly 300 years after Galileo's demise, Hawking went on to pursue his graduate studies at Cambridge. When only twenty he was, he became diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or more commonly known in the UK as Motor Neurone Disease. Hawking worked primarily in the field of general relativity and particularly on the physics of black holes. His ideas about our universe were inspired. He held Newton's chair as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. He also received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Cambridge University and was included as a Companion of Honour.  The brilliant mind of Stephen Hawking left us on 14.03.2018 (also known as Pi Day). He has forever only tried to link the two biggest theories of physics: general relativity and quantum mechanics, which he would call by ...

CERN Large Hadron Collider

Image
This is the CERN  Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is the world's largest and highest-energy  particle collider  and the largest machine in the world. The accelerator sits in a tunnel 100 metres underground at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, on the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva, Switzerland. Built between 1998 and 2008 in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and hundreds of universities and laboratories, as well as more than 100 countries, it is the biggest Machine in scientific history of mankind.  It consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. Physicists believe this machine will help unravel the mysteries of spacetime and provide the interrelation between quantum mechanics and general relativity. It is a dream of astrophysicists to catch a vista of this iconic piece.  Source : @cern ...

The First Black Hole Image ever captured !!

Image
The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) fumbled the first black hole image ever captured and posted it on April 10, 2019. The black hole is positioned at the centre of the galaxy M87. The outline is formed by the emission from hot gas swirling around it under the influence of immense gravity near it's event horizon. One of the biggest steps of Mankind towards exploring the depths of the universe !!!!  Credits : Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration et al.  _ written, edited and directed by Dibyendu Maji a.k.a.
